Get involved

Our Society provide its members with a variety of fun, friendly competitive events throughout the year catering for novice, youth archer and adults alike.

Through the winter period, we host a variety of recognised indoor rounds as well as regular outdoor frostbite shoots, with Bonfire night, Hastings and Agincourt always proving popular events.

On occasions we find some of our members go the extra mile and dress in traditional costume to celebrate these event, which may involve novelty targets, including maps, balloons, Easter eggs, Christmas decorations, with a buffet and raffle thrown in for good measure.

Outdoor season

When the outdoor season arrives [ April – October ] our target archery extends to full distance and we relocate all activities to our purpose built and Archery GB certified Crabbe archery range.

Clout shooting is a form of archery in which archers shoot arrows at a flag (known as “the Clout”) from a relatively long distance and score points depending on how close each arrow lands to the flag.

Field Archery involves shooting at targets of varying (and sometimes unmarked) distance, often in rough terrain

3D rounds is a subset of field archery focusing on shooting at life-size models of game in natural settings from varying unmarked distance pegs.

Indoor season

Any excuse combined with good weather and we will head outdoors for a Frostbite, clout or 3D round. But whilst indoor, we pre-occupy ourselves with regular Portsmouth and FITA18 rounds, as well as our annual 3 leg FITA competition [ WA18/WA25/WA Combined ]; Our 2 leg Worcester Challenge and our 2 leg Vegas Cup. The indoor season rounds off with a handicap and conventional end of season championship.

The Society is based at St John’s recreation grounds during its indoor season, shooting Thursday nights and Sunday mornings, with weekly beginners and coaching nights. Our Eagles junior advanced coaching programme runs all year round on Saturday mornings

Open Shoots

The Society is a member of the Archery Association of Jersey [AAJ], the representative face of the sport to the States of Jersey and other formal sporting organisations.

Responsible for managing travel grant funds and selecting the Island’s archery team, the AAJ also holds a number of open shoots for members of all Island Archery clubs.

One competition is held by each club during the indoor season and each club hosts open WA1440, WA720 and Head to Head tournaments in the outdoor season. This provides all local archers the opportunity to attend local events that fulfil the selection criteria for the Island team selection without having to travel to the UK.

The triple

The highlight of our Society’s calendar, the Triple is the Jersey Archery Society’s annual open competition. Held over three days, it also forms the Jersey leg of the Channel Island Inter-Insular Archery Competition. Catering for able bodied, disabled and visually impaired archers of all ages, the event is run under World Record status conditions.

The current format provides Day One a WA720 ranking round and then Head to Head elimination round or double WA720. Day Two hosts a traditional FITA or WA1440, with Day Three being a social and fun 3D or Foresters round in our picturesque woodland valley.

The weekend also includes, BBQ social night, a ploughman’s lunch and an Awards dinner to make the whole weekend a fun and social occasion for all.
