About Us

Our Story

With a history dating back over 60 years, the Jersey Archery Society (JAS) is Jersey’s oldest active archery club.  From beginner, to more experienced, young or old, whether you wish to shoot instinctively, competitively, socially; as a compound, recurve, barebow or longbow archer, our Society caters for you.

Our history

The Jersey Archery Society was formed in October 1955 by three social archers. Early shooting venues included a college sports field, a coal store and even the back tunnels of a German Underground Hospital left over the from the Occupation.

1957 saw the inaugural Society Championships held at Victoria College. Under the watchful eye of Lady Paramount, Mrs. Julia McLeod, a hard-fought contest took place with Joan Touzel & Mike Goddard taking the trophies.
